LIBRARY DIRECTOR
Description
The
Library Director is responsible for performing a wide
range of professional library work and supervising both
professional and non-professional personnel. The
Director supervises and monitors the day-to-day
operations of the Leeds-Jane Culbreth Public Library
including (but not limited to) the following:
Duties
-
Sets goals and plans policies and procedures for
effective library operations.
-
Oversees collection management for the library and
ensures compliance with the Collection Development
Policy. Ensures that library materials are
circulated accurately and according to library
policies and procedures and that these policies are
carried out in a manner that ensures excellent
customer relations.
-
Plans and oversees projects, evaluates workloads and
adjusts assignments accordingly; provides
communications and correspondence; and conducts
studies as needed and directed. Oversees the
cleaning, maintenance and repair of the building and
grounds, monitors and orders supplies.
-
Keep financial records of budgeted items and submit
invoices to Leeds City Hall for payment. Prepare
agenda and material for Library Board meetings and
serve as secretary at Library Board meetings.
Prepare reports for Library Board, city and state.

Interviews and hires all new personnel in accordance
with board and city policies.
-
Assists in providing training to staff on policies
and procedures, and training to staff and patrons in
the use of library automated systems.

Performs reference, readers’ advisory and
circulation services for the public.
-
Serves as a visible and effective advocate for the
library and its services to public officials and to
the community at large.
-
Actively seek out, organize and conduct programs of
interest to the community.

Organizes and provides outreach to neighborhood
associations, schools and other library partners.
-
Seek grant writing opportunities to expand library
services.
-
Active in Jefferson County Library Cooperative,
attend City Council meetings, and active in local,
state and national professional library
organizations.
Knowledge and Skills
-
Evaluate library service needs and prepare
long-range plans with staff and Library Board.

Prepare an annual budget for approval by the Library
Board and oversee all financial operations of the
library in order that funds are received and disbursed
in accordance with established accounting principles and
applicable law and regulations.
·
Knowledge and understanding of practices, policies and
procedures of library operations and services. Ability
to keep up with current library trends.
·
Understanding and knowledge of automated library
circulation technology and procedures (experience with
Innovative Interfaces is a plus).
·
Knowledge of library automation for online searching,
Internet and electronic reference.
·
Ability to determine needs of the collection and replace
out-dated materials.
·
Ability to address ongoing needs of the community and to
attract new patrons.
·
Grant writing experience desired.
·
Proficiency with personal computer software and hardware
required (i.e., Microsoft Office products).
·
Work
with the Friends of the Leeds Jane Culbreth Library and
the Leeds Public Library Foundation.
·
Ability to stand and move around on foot for long
periods of time
·
Eyesight sufficient to read PC monitors and printed
materials. Manual dexterity necessary for the regular
use of terminals and personal computers.
Education and Experience
-
A Master of Library Science from an ALA accredited
program is required. Three years of professional
library experience and supervisory experience
preferred.
Hours, Salary and Benefits
-
Position requires a minimum of 40 hours per week,
which may include some Saturday and evening hours.
-
Salary range $40,000 - $56,000. Salary is negotiable
based on qualifications and experience. Excellent
benefits package.

TRUSSVILLE
PUBLIC LIBRARY
LIBRARY DIRECTOR
The
Board of Trustees of the Trussville Public Library is
seeking a professional, energetic, progressive director
to lead and manage library operations in a rapidly
growing community northeast of Birmingham, Alabama.
The
City of Trussville is administered by a mayor and
five-member city council. The library director works
under an active Board of Trustees. The library is
scheduled to begin a major library expansion in the near
future. The director manages an annual budget of $1
million and supervises a customer-friendly staff of 14,
including 12 full-time and two part-time staff. The
library has a materials collection of 260,000 items and
serves a population of 30,000 to 35,000.
The
ideal candidate will hold a clear vision of the
Trussville Public Library as a service-driven
organization and will come with a full repertoire of
ideas and experience in assessing and meeting the needs
of a community bursting with growth.
The
successful candidate should have a Master of Library
Science from an ALA accredited program. In addition,
he/she should have at least five years of supervisory
experience in public or private library administration
and have experience in budgeting and financial
management.
Salary
is negotiable based on qualifications and experience.
Salary range is $53,000 to $82,000. A comprehensive

The

professional with vision and strong technical and
management skills to fill this position. Working closely
with the Curator of Special Collections and reporting to

Digital Services plays a major role in coordinating,

Requirements
