The Alabama
Public Library Service (APLS) is responsible for
receiving and administering state funds as provided by
the State Legislature, and federal funds as provided by
the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA)
These funds
are to be used to provide the best possible library
service to the citizens of Alabama.
The objectives of APLS are:
To provide library
services to the citizens of Alabama directly or through
local libraries.
To provide library services for those with special needs
through the Regional Library for the Blind and
Physically Handicapped.
To provide library services to the Alabama State
employees to meet their work related information needs.
To assist in establishing cooperative library services
and networks.
To provide continuing education opportunities for
librarians.
